September is National Preparedness Month, so don’t forget the most important supply! Clean drinking water is essential in any emergency. That’s why it is important to plan ahead and include water in your emergency kit. Store at least 1 gallon of water per person per day for drinking and sanitation. Keep enough water for a minimum of three (3) days – more if possible. Rotate your supply every 6 months to keep it fresh.

This month’s department spotlight is the Education & Outreach program. Helping customers understand where their water comes from, how it is treated, and where it goes after use builds trust, and support in the community. Some of the ways HPUD engages in the community is through the Water on Wheels program, 865 Academy, and volunteer work. Explaining the complexity and cost of treatment processes can promote a better appreciation for clean water and reliable service. This past year, we spent over 110 hours with the 865 Academy!

After drinking water has gone through the treatment process where it is stored in clear wells, it is ready to be distributed to customers. HPUD’s water distribution system is designed to safely and reliably deliver clean drinking water from the treatment plant to homes, businesses, and schools within the community. HPUD’s distribution system consists of 689 miles of water main (pipe), 14 storage tanks, 18 booster stations, 8,330 valves, and 2,478 hydrants.
We take pride in maintaining a system that delivers clean water where it is needed because we know our community depends on it every single day. #HPUDBillAtWork #CommittedToExcellence
